Feeling better, but not happy

No more fevers lately for Nathaniel, but he's not the happiest baby in the world. When we took him to the doctor Monday, the doc tried a nebulizer treatment. The result, for the first time in a while, was that Nathaniel could actually breathe properly.

So now we're doing regular nebulizer treatments. For the most part, the little guy is handling them like a champ: sitting on my lap, breathing through a mask for 5 minutes or so without crying or anything. Except for the final treatment of the day.

Maybe he's just exhausted and wants to sleep (so we'll try doing it a little earlier), but after he sits quietly for earlier treatment, he's been screaming and crying through the nighttime treatment.

It's really sad, but he seems to be feeling much better, so we're sticking with it. Poor kid.

Rough week

Sorry for the lack of posting since Nathaniel's haircut ... but the little guy has been pretty sick for about a week now.

Maybe it's like Sampson without the hair?

Anyway, he's has a fever up to 104 and only down to under 99 (finally) this morning. He's been to the pediatrician three times as well as pre-scheduled meetings with the ear-nose-throat specialist and the cardiac specialist.

Nobody thinks its anything serious, and the X-rays back that up. But it's still been a long week for everyone.

Post-haircut Nathaniel!

Without further ado ... here he is!

As you can see, no curls hanging down the back anymore, and the front doesn't hang all the way down to his nose and mouth. He really seems to like having less hair in this hot weather ... I know I would.

Overall, I think it looks great. Just a basic haircut, but he doesn't look so messy anymore. Amanda did a great job (while I took pictures).

I'll try to post some of the "during haircut" pictures by tomorrow and/or Friday. He seemed a little confused as to what was happening, and he didn't cry until he actually realized he was buckled into his travel high chair and couldn't get out. All in all, he took it very well.

The hair he's lost ...

As promised, today will be a picture of the hair we removed from Nathaniel's head over the weekend.

In haircut-related news, Amanda said the folks at day care had been wondering how long we were going to let it grow, and that they liked his new look. Come back tomorrow to see what that new look is.

LONG HAIR NO MORE!

After more than 17 months, Amanda and I gave Nathaniel a haircut yesterday. But I'm going to build up suspense and not show the picture until Wednesday. First, here's a before picture. Tune in tomorrow to see how much hair was cut.

Nathaniel the stuntman

For a while now, Nathaniel has been able to climb up on the couch in the living room. For a while now, we've had to tell him not to stand on the couch or try to climb over the arms onto the end tables.

Now he has a new trick.

In recent days, he's taken to climbing onto the couch, locating a pillow on the floor, then launching himself onto the pillow. I have to admit, it's quite fun to see him kind of announce his plans (with a "whoa" or "wow" before the launch), then proceed to falling face first and laughing when he hits the pillow.

Of course, this will end badly when he misses a pillow at some point, but our couch is low ... and (of course) Amanda and I are trying to keep him from this activity as much as we're trying to keep him from standing on the couch or climbing over the arms. He no longer stands or climbs, so I hope the stuntman days will end soon as well.

In other news, Nathaniel's Oma (his grandmother, my mother) visited last weekend, and Nathaniel was quite the charmer. It was too short a visit, but Nathaniel and his Oma really seemed to love getting to see eachother. Now we have to plan a trip for us to visit Oma in Pittsburgh sometime.

Hope everyone had a fantastic fourth.
