Ear infection, continued
About two weeks ago, Nathaniel was much fussier than usual.
On the positive side, Amanda and I have noticed that Nathaniel is always fussy for a reason (knock on wood). He doesn't just start fussing and kicking and screaming for no reason. So we took him to the doctor and found out he had an ear infection. We got some antibiotics and went through a 10-day regimen that seemed to work wonders.
Until Sunday night.
That's when Nathaniel woke up several times and was really unhappy. He kicked, punched, yelled and generally would not go back to sleep. It was a heck of a night for all of us. But at least we knew something had to be wrong (though, once again, we hoped it was teething and it was not).
A visit to the doctor showed that the ear infection was still there and it was worse. That's a little disturbing. We just went through 10 days of antibiotics, and all it did was keep the infection in check? What kind of weak antibiotics are they giving us?
Well, now we're on to a new regimen. Hopefully it will actually work this time. The poor guy doesn't need another few days of ear pain.

We are going through the same exact thing. These poor kids are subjected to this nasty medicine...and it doesn't even help!!!! We are beginning to question the pediatrician (to no avail) and just becoming frustrated. All we want is for our little boy to feel better and come out of this without any type of damage....I feel for you guys. Hopefully we will all make it through this fast!!!
Don't be afraid to ask for a referral to an ear nose and throat specialist. Your child is always worth getting a second opinion for. My first born son had ear infection after ear infection and although being treated with antibiotics, wound up with a ruptured eardrum. If you ever doubt your doctor, get a second opinion.
I followed that program with my first child, for almost 3 years! Needless to say, she was always sick, always had ear ifnections. Then I stopped the antibiotics (Which the Docs are not supposed to offer right away-is it bacterial or viral? Viral is usually the cause and antibiotics won't help it, they will only weaken the gut!)
In my daughters case I began taking her to a chiropractor and educating myself. For example, olive oil and garlic in the ear (you can buy "ear oil" at health stores and pharmacies) does wonders. I took a long time to question everything and trust my decisions. It is overwhelming at times but so worth it!
When child #2 came around I did it all different. He is almost 5 years old and had 2 ear infections-neither treated with antibiotics, both lasting less than 2 days.
Good luck,it stinks when the kiddo is sick. Take your time and do nto feel guilty questioning the Doctor!
