Too much!
On top of the exhaustion of the holidays (yesterday was supposed to be a recovery day for us, but Nathaniel was way off throughout the day ... he refused to nap and screamed regularly at us), now we're planning his first birthday. It's all so much.
And then we took a closer look at the "What to Expect" baby book, and we see Nathaniel is supposed to be drinking from a cup these days. From a cup? He regularly refuses a sippy cup! And what's the reality when it comes to brushing a baby's teeth? And he maybe should be able to say a word or two other than "Mama" and "Dada"? Argh! Are we messing up with him? He certainly seems happy (most of the time), and he's hitting the physical milestones (standing unassisted, cruising like mad, slight walking, etc) ... but now I'm all concerned about the brain-related milestones.
It's all too much. Exhausting.

We must be reading the same book. In the beginning it seems like my daughter was pretty much dead on with what the book said, she's 8 months old now and i've noticed that lately the book is really off to what she is actually doing. Everything from sippy cups, to crawling etc. I use to depend on that book alot, now i don't read it as often and just try to take some advice from it in regards to teething, and games to play etc.
Hey Mark... I have a little guy about your sons age. He had issues with the sippy cup also. He didn't like the lifting and tilting his head back process so we started showing him how to use a straw. He took to it immediatly. We bought him the sippy straw cups with the safe rubber straw attached to the cup... he loves it. As for the speaking. I was worried about our sons progress in that department too but soon realized he was saying words, they just didn't come out right yet. Elmo = memo, doggie = goge. Green = geeeeee. Took me a while to hear what he was actually trying to say. I think the concept means more then the words.
