Dang kids and their music at all hours!

Long ago, Amanda and I removed the mobile from Nathaniel's crib. (OK, he still wrestles with it on the ground once in a while, but only with close supervision so he doesn't get to tangled up in all the strings and such).

But the mobile came with a little crib attachment thing that (a) moved it to keep him interested and (b) played music. We left the attachment thing on and, every once in a while, Nathaniel will press a button and play some music (15 minutes each of Bach, Beethoven and Mozart, or a 15 minute sampling of each, I think).

This morning, about 4 a.m., Nathaniel woke Amanda and me up playing his music. He wasn't making a sound ... not crying or upset or anything, there was just music playing. After a while, it stopped, and then he started it again!

He's sitting in the dark listening to classical music at 4 a.m.! I hope this isn't a sign of things to come, listening to music at all hours, keeping us awake.

(PS: This is my 200th post!)

Our mobile works the same way except that now, our son is almost 2, it sits on his nightstand and he plays it all the time. It soothes him back to sleep. So instead of calling for one of us, he starts he music, watches the light show, and gets back to sleep. Its actually a god-sent in our eyes. Your little boys growing up!!!

Mark,

Our daughter used to love her "Lullaby Bird" (a musical yellow Tweety Bird). It would play music (nursery rhymes) for 20 minutes when the button was pressed.

Congrats on your 200th post.

Hi, Mark --- I've been reading your blog since you started and finally had some free time to "catch up" over the past few months. I'm glad that you'll continue --- I enjoy seeing how your adorable son has grown and thinking back to our own trials and tribulations of raising our 2 sons. My "baby" is now a High School Sophomore and our oldest is in his Senior year of college (start saving now!) Enjoy every minute with your son --- time really does fly! (And take as many pictures as you can -- our sons pull out the photo albums from time to time to re-visit their "baby days" and changing years, vacations, etc. and love to sit and remember special occasions.Keep on writing --- and remember that earaches, loss of sleep, etc., etc., really do change --- only as they grow you still encounter these things on a different level! (Just wait until you're wide awake and waiting for your teen-aged driver to get home!)Enjoy your son! Marci
